How the storm works
Radiation spreads across Hajin during every deployment. Two things on your screen track it:
- “Time Remaining” on the HUD counts down to the moment the storm next gets stronger.
- The Tac-Map shows the radiation spreading across the map.
Activision’s Hajin guide tells you to head for an exfil as it worsens. If you stay too long you can end up cut off in an area that is too hostile to survive.
How long you have
There is no official match length yet. Press from the review event agree a deployment lasts about 30 minutes: PC Gamer says matches run 30 minutes and Nintendo Life says the countdown gives you half an hour at most. GamesBeat saw runs end after about 15 minutes with an early exfil, and others run past 40 minutes when squads stayed to the end. Both fit a storm that keeps getting worse after the first timer runs out.
The reactor and fallout zones
Some places are irradiated no matter what the storm is doing. The Haneul Nuclear Reactor in the north-east has a radiation cloud over it, and the official material says you need a Gas Mask and Radiation Gear to go in. Side Ops can also send you into fallout zones.
| Gear | What it does | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Gas Mask | Protects you in irradiated areas | 3D Printer recipe from DMZ level 26 |
| Radiation Gear | Needed alongside the mask at the reactor | Loot. Fire Stations are reported to hold it Unconfirmed |
| Radiation Blockers | A consumable that reduces radiation effects for a while | Printable, per Pocket Tactics. The cost is not confirmed yet |
A tougher Durable Gas Mask appears as an Epic reward at DMZ level 68 in Activision’s level table.
Tips
- Plan your route to an exfil before the second storm warning, not after.
- If you go to the reactor, go early in the match with the mask and gear already on you.
- Reaching the reactor by water is reported to be the safer approach. Unconfirmed
