MW4 DMZ 3D Printer guide: resources, ingredients and recipes

How crafting works in DMZ: Resources vs Ingredients, the starter recipes and their costs, every recipe unlocked by level, ingredient printing and the station upgrades the printer builds.

Quick answers

When do you unlock the 3D Printer?
DMZ level 2.
Can you 3D print guns in DMZ?
No. Guns come from the Gunsmith after you extract a Weapon Manual.
What does a Medkit cost to print?
30 Chemicals, 1 Binding Catalyst and 5 Biomaterials.
How do you print ingredients?
Build the Uncommon Ingredient Printing upgrade ($50,000, 20 Biomaterials, 10 High-Tenacity Fibers, 5 Comms Module) or the Epic one ($100,000, 10 Binding Catalyst, 10 Printed Circuit Board, 5 Military Composites).

How crafting works

The 3D Printer at the FOB turns what you extract into gear. It opens at DMZ level 2. It does not print guns: those come from the Gunsmith after you extract a Weapon Manual.

It uses two kinds of material:

Material What it is Stash space
Resources Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals and Metals. Ordinary loot breaks down into these automatically when you extract None
Ingredients Named parts such as Binding Catalyst, Biomaterials, Rigid Synthetics and Reactive Metals, found in specific areas Yes

Each Ingredient has a “where to look” hint inside the printer. Resources do not, because they come from almost everything.

What it makes

The printer starts with Gear, Backpacks, Consumables and Upgrades. More categories unlock with DMZ level: Tacticals at 4, Lethals at 7, Field Upgrades at 12 and Fire Support at 28.

Other ways to unlock recipes

  • DMZ Orders reward some recipes.
  • Looted Recipes. Extract with one and it unlocks automatically and pays 5,000 DMZ Cash.

Printing ingredients

Two station upgrades let the printer make ingredients as well as gear:

  • Uncommon Ingredient Printing unlocks Biomaterials, Control Unit, Detonators, Electronic Sensors, Reactive Metals and Rigid Synthetics. Each costs 20 + 20 of two basic Resources.
  • Epic Ingredient Printing unlocks Alloyed Plating, Ballistic Fabric, Comms Module, Nylon Laminate, Power Regulator, Stabilized Reagents, Turned Components and Volatile Explosives. Each costs 100 of one Resource plus 3 of a Rare ingredient.

Rare ingredients (Binding Catalyst, CPU, Nitro Compounds, Printed Circuit Board, Stock Rod, Structural Alloy, High-Tenacity Fibers and Nylon Cloth) can’t be printed. Neither can Military Composites, Experimental Compounds, Nano-Structured Alloy, Prototype RF Module or Regional Combat Notes. You have to loot all of these.

Station upgrades

The printer also builds permanent upgrades for the other FOB stations. These are the first tiers on the printer at launch:

Upgrade Cost What it does
Bank Upgrade I $20,000 Bank cap goes from $100,000 to $250,000
Bank Upgrade II $50,000 Bank cap goes to $500,000
Stash Item Upgrade I $10,000, 10 Rigid Synthetics, 10 Electronic Sensors +18 Stash item slots
Stash Weapon Upgrade I $50,000, 20 Reactive Metals, 10 Stock Rod, 5 Comms Module +6 Stash weapon slots
Dog Tag Case Upgrade I $10,000, 10 Rigid Synthetics, 10 Biomaterials Dog Tag Case holds 20 more tags (needs the Dog Tag Case station)
Gunsmith Upgrade I $50,000, 20 Reactive Metals, 10 CPU, 5 Power Regulator Gunsmith purchases 5% cheaper (needs the Gunsmith station)
Vendor Item Upgrade I 20 Electronic Sensors, 10 CPU, 10 Printed Circuit Board, 2 Prototype RF Module More items to buy at the Vendor (needs the Vendor station)
MIA Recovery Discount I 5 Regional Combat Notes, 10 Control Unit, 10 Rigid Synthetics MIA recovery 5% cheaper
Uncommon Ingredient Printing $50,000, 20 Biomaterials, 10 High-Tenacity Fibers, 5 Comms Module Print the six Uncommon ingredients
Epic Ingredient Printing $100,000, 10 Binding Catalyst, 10 Printed Circuit Board, 5 Military Composites Print the eight Epic ingredients

Uncommon Ingredient Printing needs Comms Modules, which you can only print after the Epic upgrade. Loot your first five.

Handy printer features

  • Track a recipe and every tracked Ingredient shows a pin icon when you loot it.
  • The menu shows how many you can make (Max Printable), and you can print straight to your Operator or into the Stash.
  • The Scout Trait Field Crafting lets you craft from Common Resources while deployed.

  • Station upgrade tiers past the first (Stash Item II, Gunsmith II and so on)
  • DDOS cost: 3 or 30 Detonators
  • Where the top-tier parts (Experimental Compounds, Nano-Structured Alloy, Prototype RF Module, Military Composites) drop
