MW4 DMZ armor and backpacks: carriers, plates and Secure Slots

Every confirmed plate carrier and backpack, how armor plates work at infil, Secure Slots, and the six loot rarities.

Quick answers

How do armor plates work in DMZ?
Your armor slot fills with plates automatically at infil. Extra plates come from Traits or the Armor Box.
What do Secure Slots do?
Items in them survive a death or failed exfil.

Armor

You wear a plate carrier (armor vest) that holds armor plates. Your armor slot starts empty and fills with plates automatically when you drop in. The only ways to bring extra plates are Traits that enlarge the armor slot or the Armor Box Field Upgrade (recipe at DMZ level 14).

Carrier How to get it
1-Plate Armor Vest Starter recipe: 25 Synthetics, 25 Metals
2-Plate Armor Vest Starter recipe: 50 Synthetics, 5 Reactive Metals
3-Plate Armor Vest Epic. A DMZ level 37 reward
2-Plate Helmet Armor Vest Epic. A DMZ level 63 reward
Tempered Armor Vest The top carrier in pre-release footage. Recipe cost not confirmed

Official rarities have only been published for the carriers given as level rewards.

Pre-release footage showed eight carriers in the printer, including Ballistic Gel and Helmet variants of the 2- and 3-plate vests. Costs for the locked ones were not visible.

Backpacks

A bigger backpack means more loot home. You start with a Basic Pack.

Backpack Notes
Small Backpack Starter recipe: 25 Synthetics, 25 Metals
Medium Backpack Starter recipe: 50 Synthetics, 5 Rigid Synthetics
Large Backpack Epic, DMZ level 34 reward
Weapon Backpack Carries an extra weapon
Secure and Scavenger backpacks Variants with Secure Slots or extra space

The exact slot counts for each backpack have not been published.

Secure Slots

Some backpacks have Secure Slots. Anything in a Secure Slot stays with you even if you fail to extract. They are the only documented way to protect an item when you die, so put your most valuable find there.

Rarity

Loot has six rarity tiers, from Common to Ultra: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Ultra. Prestige asks for carriers and backpacks of a set rarity, so high-rarity gear has a use beyond the next run. See Prestige.

Tips

  • Print a Medium Backpack as soon as you hit level 2. It is cheap and pays for itself.
  • Keep a spare carrier in the Stash so one bad run does not leave you without armor.
  • Do not take your best carrier on a run you would not mind losing.

Still waiting on confirmation

We only state what Activision, Infinity Ward or the press have confirmed. These parts of the topic are not confirmed yet, and this page will be updated when they are:

  • Rarity of the starter carriers and backpacks
  • Slot counts per backpack
  • Costs of higher-tier carriers
