How DMZ works

Match size and matchmaking

60 players, 20 squads, squads of up to three, and how matchmaking groups players by goal.

Quick answers

How many players are in a DMZ match?
Up to 60, in up to 20 squads.
Is there a solo queue?
No. Turn off Squad Fill to go alone.

How big is a DMZ match?

Up to 20 squads and 60 players share one Hajin server, and every squad spawns at the same moment at the start.

Squad sizes

  • Squads hold up to three players.
  • You can queue solo, as a duo or as a trio. With Squad Fill on, the game fills your squad with up to two random players.
  • Lobbies mix squad sizes. Matchmaking tries to put solos with solos, duos with duos and trios with trios, but there is no guarantee.
  • Assimilating with another squad can make a group of four at most.

Matchmaking by goal

Your deploy choice (Story Mission, Dynamic Op or Free Roam) is part of matchmaking. With Squad Fill on, you are matched with players who queued for the same deployment type or mission.

What does not exist

  • No solo queue. Turn Squad Fill off to go alone.
  • No PvE-only mode. The “Single Squad Mission” playlist seen in a trailer is a developer testing playlist.
  • No in-game LFG. Infinity Ward points players to the official Call of Duty Discord. You can also find a squad here.

Infinity Ward confirmed all of this in its AMA on the DMZ subreddit. See playing solo and squads.
