Quick answers

Does extracting a weapon unlock it?
No. Only extracting its Weapon Manual does.

A Weapon Manual is how you permanently unlock a gun for DMZ.

How it works

  1. Find a Weapon Manual in Hajin. Press found them as random loot. Infinity Ward’s AMA points to safes and military crates.
  2. Extract with it. At exfil the manual is used up automatically.
  3. That base weapon is now unlocked at the Gunsmith, and you are paid 5,000 DMZ Cash.

From then on you can buy that weapon at the Gunsmith whenever you have the cash.

What does not count

Extracting a weapon is not the same as unlocking it. A gun you carry out is one copy that goes into your Stash. Only the manual unlocks repeat purchases.

Recipes work the same way

Looted 3D Printer Recipes follow the same rule: extract one and it unlocks automatically and pays 5,000.

A Weapon Manual is a good thing to keep in a Secure Slot. If you die, a Secure Slot keeps it.
